Hungarian is spoken by as many as 13 million people, principally in the Central European nation of Hungary, as well as in pockets of Eastern Europe, and by diaspora communities worldwide. Hungarian is written using a variation of the Latin alphabet, which has developed since its emergence as a literary language in the 10th century CE. A Uralic language, it is one of the few languages in Europe whose history is unassociated with the Indo-European migration, a massive shift in cultural geography that occurred 6,000 - 12,000 years ago. As such, Hungarian only has some 37 cousins, among them Finnish, Estonian, and Ume Sami. Read more on Wikipedia: 🤍 Help us caption & translate this video! 🤍

In today's Hungary travel vlog, we discuss 5 Things You Should NEVER Do in Hungary and Don't Do This in Budapest. There are a few other posts about Hungary: 25 Things to do in Budapest, Hungary Travel Guide, DO'S AND DON’T IN HUNGARY, Visit Budapest - Five Things You Will Love & Hate about Budapest, Hungary, and 3 Crazy Things About BUDAPEST. But none really touch on the things you should never do in Hungary. So I decided to make this travel vlog! This isn't a complete list of what not to do in Hungary , just some things I observed from my recent trip to Budapest, Hungary. If you are Hungarian, a Hungarian expat, or living in Hungary and you have any other suggestions of things related to the topic of don't do this in Hungary , make sure you comment below. Make sure you also try Palinka! Palinka is a fruit brandy! If offered Palinka it is rude to turn it down. Hungary tourism is a big driver of the Hungarian economy, so they do overlook somethings that tourist do, but try to respect the cultural differences when you travel Hungary. Hopefully you can use this to supplement your Hungary travel guide advice and not be viewed as a rude tourist. I love Hungary - don't let the rules or culture differences keep you from visiting. Just be mindful of those cultural differences and enjoy this awesome country. 5 Things You Should Never Do In Hungary Let me start off by saying, if I had to recommend just one city in Europe to visit it would probably be Budapest. It’s got everything, old world charm but in a modern city, the architecture is amazing and exactly what you think of when you think European city, it’s very safe, the food is amazing and it’s soooo affordable compared to comparable cities. 1 - Never clink glasses or bottles together. There was a revolution in Hungary in 1848 that was defeated. Legend has it that Austrians celebrated in Vienna by toasting and clinking their glasses. Hungarians vowed not to cheers with glasses for 150 years. While that time frame ended in 1998 - many Hungarians still do not cheers! It was actually against the law until the mid 1990s! 2 - Never make the Hungry Hungary joke to a Hungarian. It’s one of those things that non Hungarians say to Hungarians and well….it’s just not funny. Don’t do that!!!! 3 - Never forget to tip. After spending 8 months in countries where tipping isn’t customary and sometimes considered offensive, I often forget to tip! In Budapest and Hungary in general tipping is customary. The acceptable tipping rate is around 15%. Side note: Don’t say thank you until you’ve paid your tab. Saying thank you when you pay your tab lets the server know you’re done and you don’t expect any change. So make sure you don’t do that if you want change back. 4 - Never refuse Palinka. Palinka is a fruit brandy that is a favorite with Hungarians. Hungarians like to say Palinka in small amounts is medicine, in large amounts a remedy! You don’t drink Palinka alone - it’s a drink Hungarians have with friends. It’s is a big no-no to turn down Palinka if it’s offered to you. 5 - Never say Buda-PEST. That’s the quickest way to get on a Hungarian’s bad side. It’s Buddah - PESHT. Side note: DONT CALL IT Bucharest! That’s in Romania! I made that mistake…didn’t turn out well for me! In my defense I had one to many Palinka!!!! Also, never miss a chance to hang out at one of the Budapest ruin bars. _ ★ Perfect Travel Shirts: →My audience now gets a 10% discount from UNBOUND MERINO when you use the discount code: VANLIFE at website 🤍 _ ★ Gear I Use: → Camera: 🤍 → Action Camera: 🤍 → Mic: 🤍 ★ Minimalist Travel Pack I Travel With: → Osprey 30L Porter Backpack: 🤍 → Sea to Summit Compression Sack: 🤍 _ ★ Remote Year: Travel like I do and save $200: 🤍 _ ★ Music: All music sourced from Artlist: 🤍 (if you use this affiliate link, we both get 2 months free) _ ★ My blog: 🤍 ★ I blog for The Budget Minded Traveler: 🤍thebudgetmindedtraveler.com #hungary #budapest #neverdothis
Travelling solo in a Hungarian town called Fertőd. I started my journey in Fertőd which is a town located in the Győr-Moson-Sopron county of Hungary. I wanted to discover more about this random town and the atmosphere because my travels are not so much based upon the known cities or the touristic places. I like to get a feel of the life outside the bigger cities and unknown places where tourists don't go. I went to visit a small local market on the side of a road where the sellers set up stalls and they was selling Hungarian food seasonings, wild animal skin, alcohol, food, wooden baskets and traditional handmade items. While I was buying fridge magnet from the local seller he had told me with loads of information about the things he was selling and his family background in the business making traditional Hungarian objects which he told me they had been handmade was in Transylvania. I decided to get my self fridge magnets as souvenirs. I tour the town go to the shop get a beer and then make my way into the next village where I discover there were some old houses from the UNESCO world heritage. In the thirteenth century, the Mongols achieved a string of virtually unbroken victories, gaining the largest contiguous land empire in history. In the 1240’s, they devastated Hungary, destroying the army of King Béla IV at the famous Battle of Mohi. This experience profoundly impacted the Hungarians, and caused them to fundamentally alter many aspects of their society, for they feared that the Mongols would one day return. As it turned out, they did. In 1285, a vast Mongol army again drove into the lands of the Hungarians. How would Hungary fair this time? Solo in Hungary in a town of "Veszprém" which is is one of the most oldest urban areas in Hungary. It lies approximately 15 km north of the Lake Balaton. In this video I started the morning looking for a place where to get warm food, possibly coffee or tea, pastry or a traditional Hungarian breakfast. I visited a Hungarian bakery shop first which I saw next to a bus station but it was closed, so I walked towards the market. While I was walking through to go and find elsewhere to get food I take a tour to see what they have on this market. As I walked further into the market I smelt some really nice food in the air but at the time I was not sure where it was coming from. I asked a local market seller where could I buy food and he pointed me to a place where I could get Lángos and coffee. I then ordered my warm food to find out what does traditional Hungarian food really taste like. I ordered Lángos, which is a typical Hungarian street food. It is a deep fried flatbread, but in the past it was made of the last bits of the bread-dough and baked at the front of the brick or clay oven, to be served hot as the breakfast of the bread-baking day. After I had my breakfast I decided to tour the indoor market to see what’s inside. I discovered there was fruits and vegetables and also a butchers selling meat, cheese, salami, sausages or ham. I also saw a indoor bakery. I came across seller with a traditional Hungarian drink “kefir” I decided to try it which I realised it has its similarities with a traditional Slovak drink called Žinčica, which is a drink made of sheep milk whey similar to kefir consumed mostly in Slovakia and Poland. Do Hungarian people eat this often and what are your thoughts if you have tried it? Put on headphones if you need to. Best time is the right before you go to bed. The brain is supposedly more receptive in that relaxed state. The plan: listen to this as often as possible until the words and phrases are natural to you, that you don't even need to think to say them. These phrases can be used mainly for the first encounters. What do you say to people who you don't know at all or don't know very well? Those phrases. My name is Evan (eko). Happy learning. Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together. The Ugric or Ugrian languages are a proposed branch of the Uralic language family. The name Ugric is derived from Ugrians, an archaic exonym for the Magyars (Hungarians) and Yugra, a region in northwest Russia. Ugric includes three subgroups: Hungarian, Khanty, and Mansi. The last two have traditionally been considered single languages, though their main dialects are sufficiently distinct that they may also be considered small subfamilies of three to four languages each. A common Proto-Ugric language is posited to have been spoken from the end of the 3rd millennium BC until the first half of the 1st millennium BC, in Western Siberia, east of the southern Ural Mountains. Of the three languages, Khanty and Mansi have traditionally been set apart from Hungarian as Ob-Ugric, though features uniting Mansi and Hungarian in particular are known as well. The Ugric language family was first noticed by Pope Pius II in his Cosmographia (1458), when he wrote that the Ostyaks (Khanty) and Voguls (Mansi) spoke a language like that of the Hungarians. 🤍 Recorded by I love languages & Friends!
